About this course

In this last outdoor drawing day of the year we will explore how to capture a dramatic landscape with gestural and joyous mark making. Good drawing comes from good observation. When we really look and translate those observations through drawing to paper we gain unique insight and become truly connected to our surroundings.

All materials and vegetarian lunch, tea & biscuits included

Join us for the last outdoor workshop of 2026. Working in sketch books we will explore techniques that help us be more selective with what we choose to draw and in doing so make work that is more of a personal responsive to the environment and less a photographic representation.
We will explore gestural mark making using thick charcoal and black ink, drawing with sticks as well as brushes.
At the end of the day you will have a full drawing book with lots of ideas to take forward and include in your own practice

Event FAQs

Is car parking available at the Studios?

Car parking is easy at Mole Studios , the studio door is a few yards from the car park .

Please note that the landscaping is not finished and that there is a step up from ground level into the studio.

Who are the classes for?

The studio is a space for anyone: beginners who want to loosen up or more experienced artists who wish to bring greater energy and immediacy to their work. My classes are designed to gently reconnect with the joy of making art without pressure or judgment.

Here, art isn’t about being ‘good’ it’s about expression, confidence and finding your own unique way of seeing the world.
